Dear LifePoint Family,

This is a difficult email for us to write, but it’s necessary that we inform you of an unfortunate development concerning one of our partners.

Recently, we learned that Sean Barry (21) may have had inappropriate contact with an underage female by electronic means. As soon as the leadership team found out about this, we asked Sean to step down from all of his duties as a Young Adult Co-Leader and Small Group Leader. Then on Wednesday, we were alerted that he had been arrested by the Seminole County Sheriff’s office following a voluntary interview.

Of course, this is devastating news for the church body, the families involved, and for the alleged victim. We are heartbroken to share this information.

We do believe this was an isolated incident. We have absolutely no reason to think that any others were involved, however, if you are aware of any impropriety that may be related, we ask you to bring it to our attention immediately, or to contact the Sheriff’s office to report it.

I urge you to be careful with this information and to avoid unnecessary sharing or gossip. Instead, I encourage you to pray and ask God to bring healing to all of those involved, including the victim, her family, and even Sean. I also ask that you allow the Barry family the privacy they need to get through this together.

As a leadership team, we have reached out to the family of the victim to offer our support as well. If you happen to know who the victim is, do not share her information with anyone. Her privacy is of utmost importance!

Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and we have faith that justice will be served.  More importantly, we have faith that some measure of peace will eventually come to those involved in this situation.
