Grace and Grits

If you’d like to serve, Mark THE FLAP at church, CLICK HERE,  or contact Pastor Jan at jan@lifepointchurch.com.

Grace and Grits is a multi-church ministry focused on feeding the hungry in our community. Grace and Grits was started over 18 years ago as an outreach ministry of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Sanford, Florida by Bob and Bettie Sonnenberg and has grown into an ecumenical outreach of over 20 churches in the community of all denominatiomns.

The current location is at the Sanford Civic Center on Sanford Ave. right off of 1st street near the water (pictured to the right). The entrance is two sets of blue double doors in an alcove at the back of the big building.

Each week (on Wednesday’s) a different church in the communty prepares and serves the food that we feed to our honored guest.

LifePoint Christian Church prepares and serves the food 4 times a year. Our 2012 schedule is below:

Feburary 1st, 2012

April 25th, 2012

July 25th, 2012

7 November, 2012

There are also opportunities to serve each week as a guest server as well as opportunities to play/sing in the house band led by Pastor Jan (The Vicar Bry Band). Please contact Pastor Jan for more inforation at jan@lifepointchurch.com.

Below is some information for the days that LifePoint prepares the food and provides servers:

FOOD PREPARATION: The arrival time is dependent upon the menu we decide on. We will decide the week before the wee we cook. Generally, arrival time for cooks is sometime between 2pm and 3:30 pm. Once the meal is finished and the kitchen is clean, in general the departure time is around 7pm (if you stay to help serve the meal. If you are unable to stay for the full meal, cooks can leave around 6pm (again, once the kitchen is cleaned).

FOOD & GUEST SERVERS: Arrival time is 5pm, departure time is around 7pm (once the tables are cleared and cleaned).

GENERAL NOTES:

LifePoint serves our community by preparing and serving a meal for 175-250 honored guest (homeless and hungry). Your children can accompany you to help serve on a one child/one adult basis. Grace and Grits is a safe place. Our focus is not only to provide a meal, but also to offer encouragement and hope through our love and compassion.

How do I make our guest feel comfortable?

• Smile

• As you serve, occasionally introduce yourself and ask people their names.

• If you feel comfortable, engage our guest in conversation and if you feel led, ask them if there is any way you can pray for them…. and as you feel comfortable…pray.

If I wanted to bring items to share with our guest, what kinds of items would I bring? (please bring all items that evening before or at 5:00 pm)

We have tables to place needed items to bless our guest with:

• Adult socks

• Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.)

• Clean, folded used clothing

• Serviceable shoes

• Bibles that need a home

• Spray or rub-on insect repellant

• Non-perishable food items

• Blankets

• sleeping bags

• warm clothing
